GREEN LISTED 2.0

For our 40th Anniversary Issue, we asked experts and our readers for their opinions on the best, worst and greatest moments in the environmental movement of the last 40 years. But a few lists didn't fit into the magazine. Here's one to get you started:

Four environmental nonprofit organizations that are inspiring change
curated by Emily Hunter, Editor of The Next Eco-Warriors

Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN): An environmental justice network that empowers Indigenous communities with global solidarity resistance.

350.org: Building a global climate movement, both online and in real-world activism, with global days of action. Based on Dr. James Hansen's call for a reduction of greenhouse gases to 350 parts per million, the safe upper limit of carbon in the atmosphere.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS): Considered pirates for the sea, they use radical tactics to end the slaughter of marine life, such as ramming and harassing whalers, poachers and seal clubbers.

DeforestACTION: A new approach to conservation encompassing animal rights, reforestation and working with locals to create an alternative sustainable economy.
