Mirroring the burgeoning concern about environmental issues in Canada and around the world, universities are offering a steadily growing range of environmental programs. As the pages of the education directory in this issue demonstrate, students today have a wide and varied selection of master’s and undergraduate degrees to choose from. The pickings, however, are slimmer when it comes to PhD programs. The eight schools described below offer students who are interested in higher-level research in the broad area of the “environment” an opportunity to satisfy their interests, while also considering the social and scientific contexts in which the environment is embedded. ...
