The St. John’s, NL office of Stantec is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Assessment Practitioner/Project Manager who can guide clients through the Canadian,and Newfoundland and Labrador environmental assessment processes, as well as environmental permitting applications. This position requires experience managing multi-disciplinary environmental assessments or planning projects, working with regulators and public stakeholders, and the ability to find solutions for our clients.

The successful candidate will work in a team environment and will be responsible for leading environmental assessments and environmental permitting for a variety of clients.  He/she will also be responsible for proposal and report writing, identifying and pursuing business opportunities, and presentations to clients and industry association groups.

As the successful candidate, you will work with the environmental assessment team on a variety of projects, including the offshore oil and gas, mining, and power sectors. Specific duties will include leading multi-disciplinary teams to prepare proposals and environmental assessment reports in accordance withthe Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Assessment Regulations,identifying environmental permitting requirements, liaising with clients, engagement of public stakeholders, and tracking of budget and schedule for successful delivery of environmental assessments and permits to clients.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading environmental assessment projects and providing direction to teams of discipline-area experts regarding preparation of registrations, project descriptions, Environmental Impact Statements, baseline studies, and supporting studies
  • Assisting with and /or leading proposal development, including the development of work plans, schedules, project teams, and budgets
  • Client and project management
  • Working with discipline-area experts, providing direction on technical work programs
  • Senior review of environmental assessment reports

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following: 

  • Post-graduate degree, or a B.Sc. with strong relevant experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience
  • Demonstrated experience with leading multi-disciplinary project teams to achieve client and business objectives
  • Demonstrated environmental assessment experience on major projects
  • Knowledge of environmental assessment, including CEAA and Newfoundland and Labrador processes, as well as generalist knowledge of socio-economic principles and methods, marine biology, terrestrial ecology, and freshwater ecology; experience within a consulting organization is considered a strong asset
  • Experience with public and regulatory consultation
  • Experience with client delivery

  • Excellent report writing and editing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work in a high-paced team environment, or independently, to meet project deadlines
  • Willingness to travel for project work and business development opportunities
