We need your support!
Dear friend of Alternatives,
Back in 1971, a young professor and an enthusiastic student at Trent University used electric typewriters, scissors and a lot of glue to produce the first edition of Alternatives Journal. They wanted to bring environmental protection and sustainability issues to a wider audience – to readers like you.
Forty years later, the magazine stands as Canada’s only national publication devoted to environmental issues, science, policy, analysis and art. The future holds many exciting opportunities – but it also brings many challenges. As a non-profit, independent media source for environmental journalism, we rely on more than subscription and advertising revenues alone. We need your direct financial support.
Your support has directly led to the quality of the magazine increasing yet again this year: We’ve added more pages, and we’re printing them on 100% post-consumer recycled paper – leading the way in the magazine industry.
This year your support has also allowed Alternatives to continue bringing in the talents of the nation’s top environmental writers, illustrators and photographers, including Andrew Nikiforuk, Wade Davis, Margaret Atwood and Paul Colangelo, to name just a few. Plus we manage all of this with a small staff of five and a dedicated team of volunteers and interns.
We ask that you continue to give generously as our 40th anniversary year comes to a close. We need your support to reach our goal of $10,000 raised by December 31, 2011. Here’s how you can contribute to Alternatives and receive a tax receipt:
1) Call 1-866-437-2587 to donate over the phone by credit card
2) Go to alternativesjournal.ca/donate
Choose your tax-deductible donation of $25, $50, $100 or more, OR
Choose a monthly contribution schedule – also tax-deductible
If you pledge $50 or more, we’ll give you a gift copy of the David Suzuki “Playlist for the Planet” CD.*
If you pledge $100 or more, or choose to join the monthly giving program, we’ll give you a gift copy of Jeff Gailus’ The Grizzly Manifesto in return. (For more of Jeff’s great writing, read our upcoming 2012 Forestry and Land Management issue.)
Thank you so much for your support.
On behalf of the staff, board and volunteers,
Brian St. Denis
Audience Development Manager
PS. All donations will receive a tax receipt and our deepest gratitude.
