NIGHTSHIFT 2013 Video & 2014 Announcement

Relive Kitchener’s inaugural festival of nocturnal adventure – and get ready for the next round!

The official NIGHT\SHIFT 2013 video has finally arrived! Watch it right here – then put your creativity cap on, because a NIGHT\SHIFT 2014 call for proposals is coming soon!

That’s right: after all your enthusiastic feedback – and, frankly, demands for an annual event – A\J is very excited to announce that we’re doing it again! NIGHT\SHIFT 2014 will take place on Saturday, November 1st, so you’ll get that handy extra hour after staying out all night again (you’re welcome).

We’re in the midst of assembling a coordinating committee, and expect to have a call for proposals out within a month. If you are interested in getting involved with NIGHT\SHIFT 2014, please email us: nightshift @ alternativesjournal.ca.

This week: another awesome event from A\J

The documentary Oil Sands Karaoke will screen in Waterloo Region just once – this Thursday at 7pm, at the Princess Original Cinema in Uptown Waterloo.

Follow along as five oil patch workers compete in a karaoke contest in Fort McMurray, the heart of Alberta’s oil sands. Then sing away your post-screening blues: your $10 admission includes a tall can of PBR & line bypass at Chainsaw!

We rarely get a glimpse into the tar sands from a personal level. Director Charles Wilkinson has managed to tunnel through the politics to bring us close the folks who inhabit that oily landscape. Who are these people that work and live in Fort McMurray? Why are they there? What do they do to survive? Join us for this fascinating film and lively debate at the after party!
