If you’re planning on visiting the Green Living Show (GLS) in Toronto this week, you’re in for a sustainable treat and here at A/J we want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the activities! Last week we highlighted a few exhibitors and attractions to watch out for, and this week we have more to share!

The sustainable parent’s go-to resource, EcoParent magazine will be set up conveniently right next to the Kid’s Zone. EcoParent caters to families wanting to make healthier, greener lifestyle choices and appeals to the already eco-savvy parents as well as those testing the waters of sustainability. At the GLS, EcoParent will host an attraction called EcoParent Village, featuring family-oriented venders, a baby change area, a breastfeeding room, and a fully programmed workshop stage.

At the Green Living show, EcoParent’s goal is to provide a consolidated resource for parents looking to make greener choices for their families. Check out the line up for their workshop stage, which includes educational sessions on subjects like Cloth Diapers 101, Sustainable Fashion for Babies and Baby Bumps, and Greening Your Kids’ Lunchbox. EcoParent says they are excited to be a part of “a truly curated green parenting show.”

After you’ve learned the ins and outs of being an ecoparent, head over to the TerraCycle booth and learn about their recycling and upcycling efforts. From chocolate bar wrappers to Tassimo coffee discs, TerraCycle partners with more than 25 organizations to recycle the previously unrecyclable, including items municipal programs won’t collect. They create national recycling systems for so-called non-recyclable waste, converting the collected waste into a wide variety of products. 20-year-old Princeton student Tom Szanky founded TerraCycle in 2001; since then the company has diverted billions of units of waste and created over 1,500 different products available at major retailers.

TerraCycle will be educating Green Living Show attendees about the products they can recycle that would normally end up in landfills. This is their third year at the Green Living Show and the Toronto-based company is excited to return. TerraCycle continues to participate in the GLS in order to meet a wide audience of consumers and educate the public about their unique service. The collections programs are 100% free so bring your questions and so-called “garbage” to see what they are capable of!

Sustainable Waterloo Region (SWR) will join the Green Living Show for the first time. The organization is being honoured at the show’s Victories Celebration, where executive director Mike Morrice will share some of the successes SWR has spearheaded. SWR is a not-for-profit working in Waterloo Region to advance the sustainability of organizations throughout the region through collaboration.

SWR is being recognized this year for their successful partnerships with local organizations to create a region-wide green house gas inventory and action plan – a model that’s starting to be replicated across the continent. “We’re excited to share stories of local organizations advancing their environmental sustainability while simultaneously advancing their business,” says PR Manager Jenn Carreiro, adding that the SWR team is inspired by the diversity of issues being recognized and very happy to be part of this year’s GLS. Other Victories Celebration honourees include Sarah Harmer, the David Suzuki Foundation and Michael Stadländer, the man behind Soupstock.
