Why Go Here?

UBC has 350 student clubs with participants and faculty from around the world, ensuring a diversity of ideas, perspectives and activities. This includes a community outreach program that aims to deal with local sustainability issues. The Forestry faculty is a world leader in education and research.Their Land & Food Systems Faculty offers a variety of graduate degrees and features a Wine Research Centre. 

Applied Learning

Students have access to the Bamfield Marine Station on Vancouver Island. UBS also features the Center for Health & Environmental Research, which uses the campus as a living lab, experimenting with sustainable energy, water, waste, food and transportation management. In Natural Resources Conservation, students have a semester-long field school in three different BC ecosystems. 

Other field course opportunities include aboriginal studies on Haida Gwaii.

Extracurricular Activities 

UBC was the first Canadian university to develop a sustainability policy, their 20-year sustainability strategy, launched in 2013, outlines the University's most recent plans to achieve their vision of a sustainable future. The Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability building uses solar, wind and geothermal power. Undergrad clubs organize social activities, beach cleanups and help select new professors. The Forestry Graduate Student Association hosts several events, including a wine and cheese, coffee house social, Forestry Olympics, a blues night  and an international beer and food night. The social atmosphere creates a close-knit community, both inside and out of the classroom.

Best Natural Feature 

Apart from being situated in the naturally beautiful atmosphere of Vancouver itself, on campus of UBC are the Pacific Spirit Forest, Wreck Beach and Camosun Bog.
